On March 28th, 2019, we signed the subsidy agreement of the implementation of the project POIS.02.04.00-00-0013/18 “Extending the Operations of the Bison Service Base”. At the end of June we are closing the project LIFE13NAT/PL/00010 “Diversification and Development of the European Bison Population in Northwestern Poland” and then we are launching the bison protection treatments in the new project. Established here in our Wild Farm in Jabłonowo under the LIFE13NAT/PL/000010 project, the Bison Service Base extends the area of operation to three voivodeships. In addition to the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where the largest part of the West Pomeranian population still lives, we will actively protect bison in the Lubuskie Voivodeship and Wielkopolskie Voivodeship.
The project provides primarily:

– Direct and telemetric monitoring of European bison
– Catches of individuals and their movements
– Immobilization and putting on telemetry collars
– Construction and renovation of pastures, distribution of bisons food
– Mowing meadows for bisons
– Caring for bisons in the show yard in Jabłonowo
– Work in the “Bison Emergency” – interventions on summons from farmers, scaring bisons
from valuable agricultural crops, assistance in car accidents involving bisons, interventions
in the case of sick or injured animals, removal of dead animals, and sampling for tests.

All activities will be carried out where the bison herds currently are located. Today, the activities will concern the administrative borders of the Piła RDSF forest districts: Mirosławiec, Kalisz Pomorski, Tuczno, Człopa, Wałcz, Trzcianka, Krzyż; RDSF Szczecinek: Drawsko, Świerczyna, Złocieniec; RDSF Szczecin: Łobez, Dobrzany, Drawno, Smolarz. However, it should be taken into consideration that many activities with the bison take place outside the forest (immobilization, putting on telemetry collar, catching, Bison Emergencies, in particular rearing animals and intervening in car accidents).
The Forestry in Drawsko, Miroslawiec, Swierczyna and Tuczno implemented the project LIFE13NAT/PL/000010 with us, so they are familiar with the various topics of bison. We also work with Drawsko and Miroslawiec Forestry in the project POIS.02.04.00-00-0143/16 “The Return of The Lynx to Northwestern Poland”. Our cooperation works very well for the benefits of animals and nature.
